If you’re having trouble installing Fabric modloader, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, you will learn how to install Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.2 with mods! Installing Fabric is usually much easier than installing Forge, since Fabric provides a simple launcher, that does not require you to install Java.
Just like Forge, there are many great mods for Fabric. Because Minecraft mods can totally change Minecraft and make it so much more fun to play, many players want to install Fabric mod loader, so they can use mods for 1.20.2.
How To Get Started
To get started, you want to open the Minecraft Launcher. If you haven’t already, you may need to log in before you can play Minecraft. The first thing you want to do is select Minecraft 1.20.2 from the list of profiles. What this does, is download and install Minecraft 1.20 to your pc, which is required if you want to install Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.2.
Once you’ve selected Minecraft 1.20.2, click Play and wait for the game to launch. Once you’ve made it to the main menu of the game, you have successfully installed Minecraft 1.20.2.
Download and Install Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.2
The next step is to download 📦 Fabric Mod loader. Once on this page, under installation, click the word here. On the download page, click Download Installer (Windows/.EXE). This will download a Windows installer. If you’re not on Windows, you can use the Universal/.JAR installer. Don’t leave the page yet, because you will also need to download Fabric API for many Fabric mods to work.
Once this file finishes downloading, you want to open the program. After opening the Fabric installer, you can now click Install, and it will start installing Fabric. Once that’s done, open your Minecraft Launcher again. If the Fabric installation was successful, you should now see a new Fabric profile in the launcher.
Download and Install Mods for 1.20.2
This is where you get to pick your favorite mods! The installation process for mods for Fabric is actually quite similar to the one for Forge. The only thing you need to pay attention to is that some mods are exclusive to Fabric and others to Forge. Some mods will have two versions, for both mod loaders. All in all, make sure to check for mod loader compatibility when download a mod.
We recommend browsing Curseforge.com or our very own website to find your favorite Fabric mods and download them from this website, as this is a trusted source for Minecraft mods. For this tutorial, we will use the Fabric mod 📦 Sodium, which is up-to-date for Minecraft 1.20.2. Once on this page, scroll down to Minecraft 1.20.2, find the correct version and click the download button.
After five seconds, your download starts, and you will get another .jar file, don’t open it, just leave it as a .jar file. After the download is complete, navigate to your search bar (on your PC, not your browser!) and type %appdata% and hit Enter or click search. Doing so should open up a folder with a bunch of other folders in it. Find the folder called .minecraft and open it, this folder is usually at the top of the list. Once in this folder, right click and select Create new folder and call it mods (all lowercase).
If you’ve installed mods before, this folder might already exist. In this case, you want to either back up its contents and then clear all files from the folder, or rename the folder to something like old mods. Fabric will only look for the folder called mods when loading Minecraft with mods. Once you’ve created the mods folder, drag in all mods you want in Minecraft. In this case, you’ll want to drag Blur.jar in to the folder.
That’s it!
You can now go back in to your Minecraft Launcher, launch the Fabric profile and wait for it to start. Once you’ve made it to the main menu, create a new singleplayer world or hop in to an existing world to see the mod in action. Please note: worlds in which mods were used will not be playable without mods afterward! Do NOT open any of your vanilla Minecraft worlds with mods, as this may break the worlds.
