How to install Sodium

The Sodium mod only works with the Fabric mod loader. If your current mod loader is Forge, then you need to first install Fabric. Once you have Fabric installed, you will need to download the Sodium .jar file. You will find all its versions in the download section below. Once downloaded, move the file to your Minecraft folder, which is accessible by going to the start menu and searching %appdata%. Doing this will bring you to a collection of folders. Most of the time, you’ll find the .minecraft folder on top of the list, open it and try to search for the mods folder. 

If you can’t find the mods folder, you can create one by right-clicking on an empty space within the .minecraft folder and then adding a new folder. Make sure to name that newly created folder as mods, all in lowercase. After creating a mods folder, open that folder, then copy or drag the Sodium file you’ve downloaded into that mods folder.

How to use Sodium

Once you get these things done, open the Minecraft launcher. The launcher usually sets the newly added mod loader as default, which in this case is Fabric, but if not, you can click the drop-down menu and set it yourself. Once the mod loader has been set correctly, start the game. It is now possible to tweak the settings by heading over to options, then video settings. You’ll notice how the UI for this option has changed. You can now play around with it. One recommendation is lowering the render distance if your goal is improving FPS.
