The Sodium 1.20.2 mod is a Minecraft mod that aims to drastically improve performance. It allows players with low-end systems to enjoy Minecraft, by optimizing it in a way that eliminates lag spikes and increases the framerate.
Frame rate issues solved
For many Minecraft players, low fps appears to be a constant issue. That’s why Minecraft’s thriving mod community is such a blessing. Thanks to brilliant minds for the mods that add content and fixes to the game. OptiFine is a well-known mod that has shown to be quite effective in enhancing Minecraft’s performance. The OptiFine mod helps you increase your frame rate. Optifine is already a popular mod with a large number of Minecraft players. However, Sodium does it better.
What is Sodium?
Sodium takes the top spot for Minecraft performance mods. This mod boosts the performance of vanilla Minecraft by an enormous margin. It does this by utilizing OpenGL rendering better, which reduces lags greatly. This mod also allows your Minecraft client to use 40% Less Video Bandwidth, so your Graphics card lasts longer. This mod allows you to tweak many in-game features and install other mods like Phosphor and Lithium which greatly boosts your FPS.
How to install Sodium
The Sodium mod only works with the Fabric mod loader. If your current mod loader is Forge, then you need to first install Fabric. Once you have Fabric installed, you will need to download the Sodium .jar file. You will find all its versions in the download section below. Once downloaded, move the file to your Minecraft folder, which is accessible by going to the start menu and searching %appdata%. Doing this will bring you to a collection of folders. Most of the time, you’ll find the .minecraft folder on top of the list, open it and try to search for the mods folder.
If you can’t find the mods folder, you can create one by right-clicking on an empty space within the .minecraft folder and then adding a new folder. Make sure to name that newly created folder as mods, all in lowercase. After creating a mods folder, open that folder, then copy or drag the Sodium file you’ve downloaded into that mods folder.
How to use Sodium
Once you get these things done, open the Minecraft launcher. The launcher usually sets the newly added mod loader as default, which in this case is Fabric, but if not, you can click the drop-down menu and set it yourself. Once the mod loader has been set correctly, start the game. It is now possible to tweak the settings by heading over to options, then video settings. You’ll notice how the UI for this option has changed. You can now play around with it. One recommendation is lowering the render distance if your goal is improving FPS.
There are a lot of mods that work wonders when paired with this mod. Always be on the lookout for those and make sure to always visit mcmodspot.com for more Minecraft mod updates!
