The Distant Horizons mod allows you to play with pretty much any render distance that you would like. In vanilla Minecraft, you can go up to 32 render distances. If you install Optifine, you can increase this and get 64 render distances. What’s crazy is with this mod you can reach up to 128 render distances and beyond, which is pretty incredible!
The best thing about this mod is that it even works for the newest versions of Minecraft. If you’ve tried out the Far Plane Two before, the Distant Horizons 1.19 mod is similar to it.
Higher lower distance without breaking your PC
If you haven’t tried any of these mods yet, you may think that this is not possible, as increasing the render distance would mean insane fps drops. But that isn’t the case. The way this performance mod does its magic is by showing you the terrain in the distance at a less detailed resolution.
This mod takes advantage of this because no one really actively pays attention to the horizon in the distance that much. The Distant Horizons mod accomplishes rendering insane amounts of chunks by slowly lowering the detail of the distant terrain. The distant terrain gets fewer pixels, so it does not take up too much of your PC’s resources.
How to set up Distant Horizons
To use this mod feature, you will first have to set your regular render distance from the settings and then set the Distant Horizons mod’s render distance setting. The number you set your vanilla render distance is going to be the number of blocks actually rendered by the game. The following blocks are going to be in a lower resolution.
So let’s say you’ve set the vanilla Minecraft to render distance to 11 then set the Distant Horizon mod’s render distance to 128 then you’ll have a 128 render distance which resolution becomes lower as you look further. This mod is especially very useful if you are already using mods that add biomes and random new structures. And best of all, it has one version that works for both Forge and Fabric modloader!
